Advanced Training for Experienced Social Movement Trainers August 20-24th, 2025

Stroomversnellers is happy to announce an Advanced Train-the-Trainer by Training for Change in the Netherlands in August 20 till 24!

What is the training about?

This advanced workshop is for experienced trainers wanting to deepen their skills in service of social justice movements. Building upon tools and concepts from direct and popular education, this workshop is about expanding your self-awareness as a facilitator; advanced group dynamics around diversity, conflict, and strong emotions; and exposure to bold training tools. This workshop is for trainers seeking to explore their own range and abilities and who want concrete tools to deepen their craft.

Pre-registrations are open till December 31, 2024. If you seriously consider joining the training, please let us know by filling out the form here:

Pre-register now

Pre-registrations help us to plan the training and assess the need for additional fundraising. In the event of equal suitability, candidates who have pre-registered will be given priority over those who haven’t.

Learning goals of the advanced train-the-trainer:

  1. Practice bold facilitation approaches in a supportive setting
    • Use of games and adventure based learning
    • Diverse ways of inviting participants own experiences for learning
    • Strengthening your capacity to work with strong emotions and to work with things “under the surface”
  2. Learn about advanced group dynamics and related tools
    • Diagnosing the life of a group
    • Diagnosing where a group is in it’s learning journey
    • Tools for recognizing the diversity in a group and use it for learning
    • Emergent design (design-on-the-fly, adapting your agenda in the moment)
  3. Receive in-depth support on your learning goals
    • Gain greater awareness of yourself and your strengths as a facilitator
    • Exploring facilitator ‘styles’ and increasing your range of styles
  4. Meet and learn from experienced trainers from a range of experiences and contexts

For whom?

  • You have experience and prior training in experiential, group-centered, participatory approaches to training and facilitation (such as direct education, popular education, process work, theatre of the oppressed);
  • You are actively training and facilitating in relationship to social justice organizing and movement building;
  • You are open to high levels of engagement and live practice sessions, and want to increase your awareness around social and group dynamics;
  • You are open to honest self-reflection and building self-awareness, and you are curious about new approaches and tools;
  • You have given at least 50+ workshops/trainings.

We will give priority to suitable candidates who are part of a trainers’ network or collective and trainers with marginalized identities.

Practicalities

Arrival and departure

Arrival on Wednesday August 20th in the afternoon.

Departure on Saturday 23rd in the late afternoon (if you only join the training itself) or on Sunday 24th in the late afternoon (if you choose to join the highly recommended additional networking and exchange day).

Venue

We’ll be staying in a nice venue in the small village Hornhuizen on the countryside of the Groningen region of the Netherlands. Vegan food will be provided.

Sleeping places are in a dorm, with a few single and double bedrooms available.

Transport

The venue is accessible by public transport. Nearest train station is Winsum, from which you can catch a bus to the venue (bus stop right in front of it). Transport to and from the venue is at your own expense.

Costs

The fee for this training is sliding scale (€200-€5000). The true cost is €3750 (incl VAT) per participant. Stroomversnellers is raising funds to keep the training as financially accessible as possible. Nevertheless, we'll need financial contributions from the participants in order to make the training happen.

Our sliding scale honors different abilities to pay and helps us compensate trainers, staff, food and venue fairly. We ask organizations and individuals with large budgets to pay at the higher rates. This way, you support the sustainability of this program and help us accept more folks who pledge lower amounts. We acknowledge the different costs and considerations around your attendance, including childcare/caregiving, time away from paid work, and more. We offer lower fee options for participants who are not able to pay at a higher rate.

Pre-register now

Pre-registrations are open till December 31, 2024.
